Monolith
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
Monolith – large and tall, but at the same time very slender speaker columns. Despite this fact, they do not reveal their potential for even a moment. From the front side, you can see only half of the speakers used. The two-speaker bass section is hidden inside the column.
The project was made to be perceived as universal design, but at the same time breaking certain stereotypes in an unusual way.
The concept of combining full range loudspeakers with bass section, which has become very appreciated in recent years, has much in common with our design, in which these assumptions collided with housing inspired by the Monolith from the Stanley Kubrick’s film 2001: A Space Odyssey. However, Audio-planet, as usual, does not compromise and goes two steps further. This first step is a full range loudspeaker supported by a very efficient 28mm silk dome tweeter which gives music its beat. The second step is the low-frequency section, which is not only doubled but also separated and independently tuned. It is a precedent solution – two woofers are working on getting one resonant frequency but in different applications and directions, so that they can complement each other expanding and diversifying the operation of the resonators. To achieve the “monolithic” objectives, the columns have been given raw and restrained design, and the simplicity, as well as elegance, have transformed Monoliths into monumental speaker columns that also function as high-quality furniture.
The design is a three-way system, multi-chamber, 4-speaker, ventilated.
What makes us different
Transducers
Small and unrestrained full range speaker
A large 28mm silk dome tweeter creating crisp sound
Precedent solution
Monolithic heavy and solid body
Hybrid separated double bass section
Subtlety and power
Surprising, strong and versatile sound
Optimal configuration
Crossover without any resistors / silencers
SHORT SOUND DESCRIPTION
The assumption was to achieve the universal, decisive and open sound. And that is exactly what has been achieved. Lightness and detail of midrange combined with the crisp sound of the silk dome tweeter is supported by multicolored, but consistent in its message bass. The speakers simply love to show off and are thankful for turning up the potentiometer.
How would we describe the sound in just two words ? Surprising and unexpected. The price of the speakers can make these two terms become even more important …
ENCLOSURE CHARACTERISTICS
The tall, deep and slim structure is made entirely of MDF. It is heavy (loudspeaker weight 60 kg) and stable. A four-speaker system and precedent solution in bass section forces an internal complexity. The columns are finished in standard high-gloss varnish with the delicately engraved name of the model, but nothing stands in the way to personalize a product not only with the choice of color but also with the selection of finish (such as airbrush painting).
